Stepper Startup Failures in Cold Warehouses

A field-oriented checklist for low-temperature starts, stiff grease, and voltage drop on distributed packaging equipment.

Cold starts change the whole operating window

The startup state of a warehouse conveyor or carton line is not the same as the warmed-up state. That distinction needs to show up in the validation plan.

The fastest fix is to log supply voltage, ambient, and first-cycle recovery together. Otherwise teams keep retuning only the ramp.

  • Measure the first three cycles after power-on, not only steady-state behavior.
  • Review grease drag and cable stiffness together with motor current.
  • Do not sign off cold-start behavior from a room-temperature FAT only.
